Greek pop diva Elena Paparizou rocketed to world-wide celebrity in 2005 when her "My Number One" claimed top honors in the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Born January 31, 1982, in Västergötland, Sweden, to Greek immigrant parents, Paparizou -- whose first name is often spelled "Helena" in international markets -- was raised in Gothenburg, where as a child she studied vocalizing as well as dancing and playacting. At 17, she teamed with fellow Greek-Swede Nikos Panagiotidis to form the dance-pop duet Antique. Their debut exclusive, a cover up of Notis Sfakianakis' "Opa-Opa," emerged as a gaolbreak hit, entering the Top Ten across Scandinavia and becoming the showtime play to climb into the Swedish Top Five with a record sung in Greek. The followup, "Dinata Dinata," was likewise a smash, and Antique afterward scored with the singles "Fall out Me" and "Moro Mou." In 2001, the duet likewise represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "(I Would) Die for You," capturing third place slow Estonia and horde state Denmark.

Despite Antique's continued success, Paparizou split from Panagiotidis in 2003 to go up a solo calling, signing with Sony/BMG and at year's closing issuance her debut single, "Anapantites Klisis." The uncut Protereotita followed in early 2004, launching a string of hits including "Antithesis," "Anamnisis," "Katse Kala," and "Stin Kardia Mou Mono Thlipsi" and release double pt in Greece. Thanks to her growing popularity in her family's homeland, Paparizou was a natural choice to represent Greece in the 2005 Eurovision competition, and with "My Number One" was laureled the country's first-ever achiever in the event. A re-released Protereotita including the song cursorily make retail, and she exhausted the second half of the yr on circuit, headlining concerts in Australia and North America. The followup exclusive "Mambo!" also exhausted x sequent weeks atop the Greek charts, and in the spring of 2006 Paparizou at last issued her sophomore record album, the number one smash Yparhi Logos. At year's closing she likewise released her starting time outside LP, The Game of Love, containing six English-language versions of songs first issued via Yparhi Logos as well as half a 12 originals.

My drinks were spiked, Lily Allen claims

Pop star Lily Allen claims her drunken appearance at an awards show may have been caused by spiked drinks.

The Smile singer, sporting a new bright pink haircut, was carried out of Glamour Awards earlier this week after seemingly having too much to drink.

But Britain's Daily Mail reported Allen as saying:  "I don't know what happened, maybe I was spiked. I don't remember a thing. I can normally get really drunk, but not like that.

"The worrying thing was that I was like a dead weight. I have been out so many times and got drunk and never ended up like that.

"What was worse was that the cab just drove off with only me in it. My brother and my mates were not with me."

Allen - who won the Editor's Award at the star-studded ceremony on Tuesday night - thanked her brother Alfie for helping her get home.

She wrote on her blog: "Last time I wrote here, I was defending my honour and dignity, explaining my innocence and also outrage at the press for insinuating my behaviour was embarrassing.

"This time I'm putting my hands up - I got very drunk, too drunk. It's not cool getting that drunk, I feel awful and I have to thank my little brother Alfie for getting me home safely.

"Kids, drink responsibly or you'll end up looking like this, not pretty! Was quite fun though, from what I can remember."

Other celebrities at the ceremony included Spice Girls Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell, actress Kate Beckinsale and Heroes star Hayden Panettiere.

Slash remembers Bo Diddley

Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash paid tribute to Bo Diddley, the pioneering guitarist who died of heart failure today (June 2).

Slash told NME.COM that Diddley greatly influenced countless musicians, and the Bo Diddley beat was the inspiration for Guns N Roses' song 'Mr Brownstone'.

"He's a huge hero of mine and the fact that he knew who I was was a huge compliment," Slash said.

"Bo Diddley created a myth that was uniquely his own. An entire rhythm is owed to just one guy and that's pretty rare," he said.

Slash pointed out that Diddley touched a vast array of artists from The Rolling Stones to George Thorogood to Guns N Roses.

"He was such a trooper and a timeless individual. I'm hoping the pioneers of rock like Bo Diddley won't be forgotten."
